Sustainabilisea: a Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines (TPB) Initiative in Taytay, Palawan – Warungku Terkini

In addition to promoting Philippine tourist attractions, the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines (TPB), the leading organization in the Philippines responsible for marketing tourism, is actively working on sustainability initiatives.

For their 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, SUSTAINABILISEA:, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines has teamed up with the Save Palawan Seas Foundation (SPSF). SPSF x TPB Build Hope: Connecting Eco-Friendly Travel to Social and Economic Advancement. The event was held in Taytay, Palawan, from June 5th to the 7th, 2024.

The Sustainabilisea initiative aims to safeguard marine life and habitat.

Barangays Casian and Batas, as well as Sitio Calabugtong, was where the program was held. The initiative was especially helpful in these regions because residents there have a hard time getting to basic services like water and electricity. When the two groups joined forces, it was a giant leap forward for sustainability, environmental protection, and community support.

Forty solar street lights were distributed to 600 homes in coastal Barangay Casian communities (Sitios Calabugtong, Dinet, Calampasiao, and Sio proper) to address the issue of limited access to power. This marked the beginning of the CSR program. A soup meal was also arranged by the TPB, and school supplies were distributed to both students and instructors at these sitios.

Marine Conservation Awareness

Coral propagation and education about marine protection were among the activities organized for the following day. Held in the SPSF sanctuary, the seminar was conducted in conjunction with the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and featured practical teaching and guidance from marine experts. The group scattered about 200 pieces of coral before planting them.

At Lake Manguao in Taytay, Palawan, a freshwater lake surrounded by verdant forests, CSR participants also went on a nature trip and planted trees. As a result of its abundance of birdlife, it has become a popular destination for people who enjoy observing birds. Because of its one-of-a-kind biological trait, it does not drain into the ocean. The latest action shows that TPB is dedicated to helping preserve the natural ecosystems of Lake Manguao and promoting sustainable methods for the lake’s preservation and protection.

Teaming up for sustainable tourism.

As part of this program, volunteers cleaned up the coast in Sitio Calabugtong and planted 1,000 to 2,000 mangrove propagules in Brgy. Batas. Because mangroves protect the land from the destructive impacts of severe weather occurrences, this was an impressive endeavor. Similarly crucial is coastal cleanup, which shields marine life from toxic trash. People living along the island’s shores will benefit greatly from this.

Sustainable tourism, environmental preservation, and community empowerment can be advanced by joint efforts like this one between TPB and SPSF. Through collaboration, TPB has proven its dedication to long-term viability, preservation of the environment, and community backing.
