Hayfin seals management buyout deal with Arctos – Warungku Terkini

UK alternative investment platform Hayfin Capital Management has reached an agreement with US private equity group Arctos Partners to secure a management buyout of the business. 

The deal will see the acquisition of British Columbia Investment Management Corporation’s majority stake for an undisclosed sum. One of the largest institutional investors in Canada, with C$250.4bn in gross assets under management, bought into Hayfin in 2017.

The new partnership delivers Hayfin’s long-term objectives of greater team ownership, alignment, and incentivization, as well as generating superior and consistent risk-adjusted returns for clients, the company said in a release on Tuesday.

Arctos has underwritten 100% of the funding and will facilitate the Hayfin team becoming the majority owners of the common equity. BCI will remain a strategic limited partner in certain Hayfin funds.

“This is an exciting new chapter that will support Hayfin’s ongoing growth while preserving our core identity and operational autonomy,” said Tim Flynn, co-founder and chief executive officer at Hayfin. 

Founded in 2009, Hayfin manages about $33.5bn worth of assets. The company maintains a discrete profile but has a sizeable maritime industry footprint, with continuous investment activity across direct lending, alternative credit, leasing, and shipownership, complete with an in-house ship management platform, Greenheart Shipping. A $1bn shipping investment war chest was revealed in late 2023, some of which went into secondhand capsize bulkers this year. The company’s shipping division, led by Andreas Povlsen (pictured), also made headlines in the shipbuilding sector this year with orders for two post-panamaxes at Oshima in Japan and calling options on two additional methanol-ready suezmax tankers at HD Hyundai in South Korea.
