Honeywell, ST Engineering Team to Provide Cockpit Upgrade for Tunisian Air Force C130s – Warungku Terkini

Honeywell announced it will team with ST Engineering Defence Aviation Services (STEDAS) to deliver a state-of-the-art cockpit and mechanical component upgrades for two Tunisian Air Force (TAF) C-130 aircraft. This signifies STEDAS’ first integration of a Honeywell Aerospace Technologies solution into its portfolio.

The TAF has chosen Honeywell’s Cockpit Display System Retrofit (CDSR) glass cockpit solution, which provides various high-tech upgrades compared with legacy C-130 systems. Those include digital instruments, a multi-functional display (MFD), and an extensive array of peripherals such as the RDR7000 weather radar, a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), and advanced flight controls.

The retrofits are designed to provide TAF pilots and flight crew with improved safety, better flexibility and efficiency, and easier maintenance. This includes enhanced situational awareness, more strategic route planning, streamlined crew interactions, and reduced workload.

This strategic relationship sets a new standard for global C-130 operators, addressing the widespread use of legacy configurations seen across the industry today. The CDSR solution, available in 3-display and 5-display options with large format LCD displays, flight controls, air data and altitude censors, meets the critical need for sustainability, modernisation, and supportability in the next decade. The Honeywell avionics certified for the C-130 retrofit are compatible with many of existing analogue and digital systems and sensors on the aircraft or with a range of upgrade sensor options – sustaining mission effectiveness throughout the entire operational life cycle.

Apple plans to upgrade the App Store’s search engine, and it might not stop there – Warungku Teknologi

According to the newsletter, former Google executive John Giannandrea’s search team is working to bake the internally-named “Pegasus” search engine more deeply into iOS and macOS and could even use generative AI tools to enhance it further. Last year Apple also launched Business Connect, a tool that helped strengthen its information database with details about businesses’ hours and locations in a way that could help it compete with Google.

Gurman points out that although Apple’s Spotlight and app search engine isn’t as powerful as Google’s, it has a robust App Store ads business that serves ads to its other apps, like Apple News and Weather. Those things combined give Apple enough pieces to launch its own search engine, perhaps sooner rather than later.

Yokogawa Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6841) announces the release of Design Diagram Converter, a new OpreX Data Model Broker component. OpreX Data Model Broker, a product in the OpreX Connected Intelligence lineup, is a data transformation platform that makes use of the ontology AI technique* to convert and verify data that is scattered across various systems. The new Design Diagram Converter component is able to read piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) created with 2D CAD software and automatically generate intelligent P&IDs and instrument lists that can be processed by computers. With the automation of plant engineering work that previously had to be done manually, Yokogawa is supporting digital transformation in plant engineering.

Development Background

P&IDs play an essential role not only in design and construction, but also in the operation, maintenance, and modification of plants that process oil, chemicals, and other materials. P&IDs are created by process designers for use by the personnel tasked with implementing plant instrumentation, piping, and machinery. However, as these diagrams are intended primarily for ease of viewing, they are not optimized for computer processing, which is necessary for frequent information exchange. In such cases, it is necessary to have a specialist manually extract and process the data from these P&ID drawings, and this is time-consuming and presents quality issues.

 

To address these issues, Yokogawa has developed the Design Diagram Converter. With high accuracy, this software can read P&IDs created with 2D CAD software, convert them to P&IDs compliant with international standard file format, and automatically generate an instrumentation list. By automating a task that previously had to be done manually, the workload is significantly decreased, quality is assured through the reduction of human error, and the promotion of digitalizing plant engineering is achieved.

  1. Automatically generates an instrumentation list by analyzing P&ID information

The original instrumentation list can be automatically generated by loading 2D CAD P&ID files into the Design Diagram Converter software. For the analysis of drawings, pattern-matching techniques are used to extract information and the patterns can be tuned using the target drawings. As detection accuracy can be easily adjusted, this makes it easier to start related tasks. Compared to the process in which information is manually extracted from diagrams and lists are created manually, this program is able to reduce total labor time by approximately 60%.

  1. Automatically generates XML documents that are compliant with international P&ID standards

With the Design Diagram Converter, information that is read can be exported in the XML document format, which complies with the ISO15926 international standard. The XML documents can be used on other systems and in applications that support the same format, making it easy to use design information from an existing plant asset.

Operationally proven, with regular and specialist units deployed in remote locations globally, this is a truly battle winning capability. SlingShot grants the user a full suite of both tactical and strategic communications with minimal infrastructure, enabling high tempo operations, enhancing force protection and facilitating complex multi-agency interoperability all delivered from a bolt on system that is simple, reliable and cost-effective.

The next generation Troposcatter on the Move (TOTM) is coming.

The use of the troposphere for communications is not new, but in the past, it was constrained by large dishes and significant power that was not suitable for modern manoeuvre warfare. COMTECH’s 10Watt Compact Over-the horizon Mobile Expeditionary Terminal (COMET) system revolutionised this capability making it small, lightweight and portable. It has been available from the NATO catalogue for the last 2 years, is in use with expeditionary forces around the world – such as the US DoD, Royal Marines and HQ ARRC – and is operationally proven with over 40 terminals currently deployed in Ukraine.

The Troposcatter COMET system is ideal for providing a secure big data network for deployed headquarters from divisional down to company level because it is small and lightweight. Due to its low power and directional nature it is also extremely difficult to detect and deny. It uses a maximum transmit power of 10-watts and only needs a 1-meter dish, but still has low latency (typically 9-20mS) and large bandwidth (5-60Mbps) for data links up to 60 km and beyond. In practice, data transfer speeds can be much greater and data links can be effective up to 100kms+ on the COMET, depending on the environment. The system is simple, intuitive, and easy to set up. Critically, it is also satellite independent and can work in a GPS/GNSS denied environment (including polar regions) making it ideal for use during Peer-on-Peer conflict and when Multi Domain Integration is required. That said, although Troposcatter COMET terminals are quick and easy to set up (15 minutes) until now, they did still need to be static.

Recognising the need for increased manoeuvre and network data on the move, Spectra in conjunction with COMTECH and BATS have been conducting trials of a Troposcatter On The Move (TOTM) capability utilising a High-Performance antenna that has been integrated in to the COMET system to provide for example; Ship to Shore and Ship to Ship communications. The solid-state and compact BATS antenna is ideal for highly mobile environments, where only minimal space is available, such as on a vehicle or maritime vessel. Extensive trials have been carried out and have proven highly reliable and successful where sea trials have achieved data rates of 175Mbps on a moving platform at ranges of 50km and sea trials achieved between 6-7Mbps at ranges of 100 km.

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it will release an upgrade of Collaborative Information Server (CI Server), a product in the OpreX Control and Safety System family, with more robust alarm management, improved access to maintenance information, and expanded support for international communications standards. This solution will bring together large volumes of data from various plant equipment and systems to enable the optimized management of production activities across an entire enterprise, and provide the environment needed to remotely monitor and control operations from any location and make swift decisions. This new version of CI Server will be released on August 17, 2023.

 

Development Background

Many different types of equipment and devices are used in plants, and the collection of their data plays an essential role in the swift detection and response to abnormalities in plant operations and routine maintenance. To obtain the data needed to correctly understand what is happening in a plant and efficiently manage its operations, it is essential to establish connections with all the different plant systems, equipment, and devices.

 

Yokogawa came out with the first release of CI Server in 2021. By integrating the handling of all kinds of data from plant equipment, devices, and systems, this solution facilitates the optimized management of production activities across an entire enterprise. With this latest upgrade to CI Server, the company has introduced new functions that enhance its connectivity with plant systems, equipment, and devices, and enable the integrated management of alarms and the use of field device data for such purposes as routine maintenance.

  1. OPC UA A&C message reception function

CI Server now supports the client function of OPC Unified Architecture Alarms & Conditions (UA A&C). This enables CI Server to safely and securely receive alarms, system state information, and other kinds of data from any device that supports OPC UA A&C server function, including third-party products.

 

  1. CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS alarm receiving function through V net

In addition to the monitoring of plant operations, CI Server can now directly receive CENTUM VP and ProSafe- RS alarms through V net*. With the addition of this function, linkage with Yokogawa’s CENTUM VP distributed control system and ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system has been enhanced.

 

  1. Linkage with Plant Resource Manager (PRM)

CI Server can now link with Yokogawa’s PRM (R4.06 or later) and is thus able to handle and provide to higher- level systems all the information that is managed using this software package. By linking with data from multiple application programs, CI Server enables the comprehensive monitoring of field device status information, parameters, and other kinds of data.
