AirAsia X (AAX), the medium and long-haul arm of low-cost carrier AirAsia, has announced a brand new route to Africa. From 15 November 2024, travellers from AirAsia’s 130 global destinations in Southeast Asia, North Asia, Central Asia and Australia can fly to the safari gateway of Nairobi, Kenya via a short stop in the airline’s home hub of Kuala Lumpur.

Flights to Nairobi are four times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Book now for travel dates between 15 November and 8 October 2025 while there are promotional rates. A one-way SIN-NBO flight could cost in the range of only S$350.

There are varying promotions for bookings from different markets, but these are exclusively available only on the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly known as the airasia Superapp), which was recently rebranded in February.

Kenya offers an amazing range of animals for the wildlife enthusiast. The country, one of the top 10 most biodiverse in the world, is home to multiple reserves and national parks. It is estimated that Kenya features 25,000 animal species and 7,000 plant species, across an array of ecosystems ranging from lush forests to wetlands and arid scrublands.

Kenya also has a coastline on the Indian ocean and palm-fringed sandy beaches, together with coral reefs for the avid diver. For the keen hiker and mountaineer, Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa at 5,199m, after Mount Kilimanjaro. The Kenyan capital of Nairobi in itself is an exciting city that offers vibrant nightlife and is the only capital in the world that houses a national park – Nairobi National Park which is a mere 20-minute drive away from the city.

Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, said that the airline anticipates carrying over 156,000 travellers annually on this route, which will strengthen ties and boost the tourism sectors in both Malaysia and Kenya and serve the carrier’s other key markets including Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, and Thailand. AAX’s new landing is a gamechanger that opens up low-cost travel options for Asians to the African continent, following its launch of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Almaty, Kazakhstan in March this year.

We’re excited to see where it takes us next!
